The mighty jungle, (where the lion sleeps tonight)...

Hola,
It has been very busy few days. We left early on Tuesday afternoon and arrived 6 hours later than expected. We were traveling to the jungle of Ecudaor, Huticha. We arrived about 11pm and ate dinner then crashed. The next two days were full of hard fast racing. The 1st day we hicked to a BEAUTIFUL WATER FALL then jumped in, caught 10 different kinds of bugs and hicked back. My team came in 1st that day. (but we didn't realize that everyone else was having such a hard time with the hick). Then the following day we walked to a school which was suppose to take us an hour, then played with the kids for an hour, walked to a bridge jumped off that was about 15-20 ft bridge (which at this very moment the group is still debating, hahaha). Then we ate lunch and went back to do manual labor, which I LOVED! We machete   a section of the property, pick coca (which chocolate is made out of), sucked on the sourly sweet seed, then carried 12 buckets of water to fill a sink. But filling the buckets was really hard, at this point in the day I was so exhuasted and didn't want to press on and my team was in last place, when filling the last bucket guys from the other teams ran down and took the bucket from me, at that point I almost cried. & today we drove back and managed to catch the right bus so we arrived on time. Today however I'm feeling very tired and like I'm getting a cold.
I enjoyed my time in Huticha and so want to go back. I could live that kind of life. It was so simple and relaxing (when we were not working really hard at a super fast pace). We bathed in the creek behind the buildings, had fresh hot chocolate, fresh fruits and other yummy foods and the sounds of the jungle in the background as we slept.

Ecuador, Peru and Colombia

Hola amgios,

So with in the past week I have been in 3 countries, on bus rides that add up to over a total of 39 hours, have had less sleep than ever in my whole life (no really several nights there little to none) BUT have had the most fun I have EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!!!!

So a brief summary:
I arrived to meet my fellow interns (11 total but only 6 will be staying in Peru). They have become my family and will be so for the next few months.

We have been on the amazing race which is the most intense thing I HAVE EVER DONE! Almost each morning we start in groups (which are different daily) and grab our clues and start running. We racing for times. The challenges vary from catching a taxi caps to climbing to skimbording to eating things that well let's just say it stayed down :) hahaha.

These beauties are  from rock climbing, while raining.

"We are not in Kansas anymore" meaning that rocking climbing in South America is totally different from the United states. To say the least amputation was an option... they were much worse. hahaha. They Colombians took such good care of me.

These are from a hike up to (I'm  not really sure what it's called)

Well that's all y'all. Hopefully more to come soon. Well one of my friends is waiting to have his computer back, (I've left all Shillong behind).

¡hasta luego!

¡Hasta luego! (see you later)

Well this may be my last post for quite sometime. So I would like to leave you with a video of what I will be doing for the 1st 10 days of my arrival. And funny video of yo mamma compliments. I know the two videos don't go that well together but the second one is really funny.

Anywho, Thank you for your support and all of your prayers. In 24 hours I will be on a plane to South America getting ready to have the adventure of a life time.

Quote of the Day (one of my favorites):
"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose."
     - Jim Elloit

Scripture: Phil 3:7-9
But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ

From a Parent's Perspective

Let me list to you the problems I ran into on Thursday and Friday, then give you the wonderful solutions that the Lord gave me :) Ready...?

As I was considering and preparing to go on this trip to South America, not once did it occur to me what my parents must be going through. Their baby girl is heading off to another country in which they have never been, to be with people whom they have never met. Yesterday listening to my mom, it finally occurred to me, she was nervous, excited and worried all at the same time. I'm not sure how a person can handle all those emotions at one time, it would drive me crazy!

Also, I totally did not even think about malaria pills or money once in the country. I was at total loss for trying to get an appointment with a doctor, calling place after place nothing! Then as for the money I didn't have clue what I was getting into and desperately needed help.

THEN!!!!!!!!

A doctor's office called me on Friday to do a consultation on the phone and send the meds to my local pharmacy. I didn't even have to leave my house!!!!! WHOOOO!

Next, (and this is the best part!!!!) We met a lady at the bank from Peru (and of course, God is not one to be thought small of) but she was also from Trujillo! This gave my mom much comfort and we were able to ask lots of questions. Oh it doesn't stop there she gave us her parent's(who still live there) home information in case I needed anything. AND!!!! It just so happens that her dad works in the hospital which gave mom even more comfort. (Which I'm sure if/when I am in her shoes I would love to hear the same thing).

OH BUT GOD ISN'T DONE YET!!!!

There is still one more person to met! The family and I went out for Peruvian food for dinner (and of course we do not serve a small GOD) our server just so happened to be from Trujillo Peru, as well. He introduced me to Inca Kola, which is popular there.

So to say the very least my parents where happy to learn from true Peruvians what their daughter would be getting into and that she would be safe.

And through the process God showed off why He is God and awesome and great and perfect and why we are called to worship and serve Him. :)

Prayers:
Me: Monday, when I fly that things so smoothly

Parents: (um... since I'm not parent I'm not really sure how to pray for them) Mom asks for: comfort, and for the Lord to give them a peace. ALSO (this is very important to me): This coming Friday the 24th Mom will be having foot surgery.

Interns, Missionaries, Short Teams and Nationals, Please be praying for unity among these groups and allow the Lord to lead you in whatever else is needed.

Thank you for your prayers and for fasting with me on Thursday.

Today's Bible Verses: Eph 4:29-32
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Thankful

Well, He did it. Before the day was even half over, shoot before the day even began. He provided $330 (amount needed: $280) in about 24 hours. That just about wraps me up. The most important stuff is covered.

Dear God,
Thanks for providing. I know it was probably nothing for you to take care of. After all in the GRAND scheme of things my little issues are nothing in comparison. So thanks. Thanks for taking care of me, just like you said. Your GRRRRRREAT, AWESOME, HOLY & SUPER COOL!

Night Papa,
I love you

Fasting...

Hey all,

Ok so let's get straight down to it. I received an email this morning letting me know that I needed to have my money in by Friday (living expenses only). Period. They did not say what would happen if I didn't have the money in, only to have it in by Friday May 17th (I leave Monday 20th, YAY!!!!).

So here's the deal for living expenses they have asked us to raise $2,600
Currently I am at $2,320 (which means for Friday I only need $280 yay!)
For the plane tickets I will need an additional $1,121.05 exactly, haha (this can come in later, as in after Friday).
If you do the math it equals out to be a total of  $3,721.05.

So in light of this, I will be fasting one meal (probably Thursday night), so that I can totally focus on the Lord and asking Him to provide and take care of His daughter. I can't wait to see Him provide! Anywho, if you wish to join me in fasting it will be more than welcomed. If you can't fast from food, then maybe try facebook or the internet or something else that takes your attention off the Lord. My only request is that you will fast (from whatever) before Friday. Let the Lord lead you.

I want to thank you for faithfully praying with me. I have been so blessed to have such a wonderful support system.

Scripture: Psalm 150

Ways to Pray:
well besides the rather obvious (support),
I will adjust to the culture (not right, not wrong, different),
Focus more on people rather a job or getting somewhere,
Language, That I will be able to pick it up quickly,
My focus will be on the Lord and not MYSELF!
The people I will be working w/
The Missionaries preparing for our arrival,
The short term teams
The other interns
Lastly and most importantly, that the Lord will receive glory and honor

(Sorry it is so long, but if you want, you can use this list during your fast)

THANK YOU

Faithful

Hey! Or Hola! (if you prefer),

I can hardly believe it's almost that time. In exactly 7 days I will be on a flight to South America! Its super exciting to think about but also really nerve wrecking at the same time. And in 4 days I will be done with my very long but very good semester.

So to celebrate both events I would like to share what the Lord has done and is doing. Yesterday, I went on a date with the Lord, in the woods behind CIU. I didn't take a phone, ipod or even a watch. It was so nice to be away from technology and not worrying about time (I'm really going to love being in Latin America this summer).

I walked down past the pond to the train tracks and just stood there taking it all in. It was a peaceful, quite and beautiful day. It was so quite in fact that I made a list of animals I saw
1. 3 turtles
2. 1 deer (walked in front of me on the path)
3. A coyote chasing a fox away from his kill - that was super cool! They were a little ways down the train tracks and I stood there for several minutes watching until they were out of sight.

I mediated on Philippians 1 & 2. It was so wonderfully good. I realized that my prayer about wanting to be selfless servant leader and wanting to focus on others & God rather than self was answered in a practical way.

First Philippians 1: Paul talked about how he was in chains for Christ and while he was in chains "some of the brothers" were "preaching Christ" to stir up trouble for him. He didn't even brother to mention that he need or had to forgive these guys for doing this. He jumps straight into say that even if what these guys were doing meant death, Paul didn't care he was just happy that Christ was preached! Death was a good thing in his eyes. Paul was clearly a selfless servant of Christ.

Then Philippians 2: Paul talked about what it looked like to be united, how to be selfless and how to love others more than yourself. (Something Inca Link is always saying "attitude is everything") So Paul address this by saying we should have the attitude of Christ, he describes what that looks like (which if you read it, it is really intense). Then he proceeds to give us to examples, Timothy and Epaphroditus.

Now my prayer has become Philippians 1 & 2.

During our time yesterday, the Lord reminded me that He would take care of things. I am sure you hear this often but even though I am faithless, He will be faithful. BUT I don't want to be faithless, I really am attempting to have faith that He will take care of me. After all He keeps reminding me, you'd think I would eventually catch on... haha. Maybe one of these days.

Anywho, Thank you for reading this rather long post.

Support: the same as before

Ways to pray: for me to have faith, Philippians 1&2 and for the Lord to do what He said He would do (take care of me).

Rise

Ok  so sadly the amount needed has gone up a bit. It went from 1230 to 1452. The rise was caused by the price of the plane tickets.

And to be quite honest I am struggling to see how the Lord is going to provide. I know He will but in this moment, right now, its hard.

Thank you for your prayers,
Bekah the girl with a wonderfully beautiful Father
